| Burn-out voor het eerst in hersenen zichtbaar |

Voor het eerst zijn verschillen gevonden in de hersenactiviteit tussen gezonde mensen en mensen die lijden aan een burn-out. Een doorbraak. Tot op heden was deze aandoening niet vast te stellen aan de hand van objectieve gegevens. Nijmeegse onderzoekers vonden een combinatie van EEG-veranderingen die uniek zijn voor burn-out. Daarmee hebben ze een objectieve maat gevonden voor de diagnose burn-out.
Een team van onderzoekers onder aanvoering van dr. Gilles van Luijtelaar van het Donders Institute for Brain Cognition and Behaviour van de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen publiceert de resultaten in het zojuist verschenen Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, het wetenschappelijke tijdschrift van de American Neuropsychiatric Association. |

Nijmegen, July 16th 2009 – Neurofeedback – also called EEG Biofeedback – is a method used to train brain activity in order to normalize Brain function and treat psychiatric disorders. This treatment method has gained interest over the last 10 years, however the question whether this treatment should be regarded as an Evidence-Based treatment was unanswered until now. Tomorrow a study will be published in the scientific journal ‘Clinical EEG and Neuroscience’ demonstrating that Neurofeedback can indeed be regarded as an evidence-based treatment for Attention Deficit- / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). |

Nijmegen, 11 September 2007 – According to a recently published study, frequent mobile phone users demonstrated slowed Brain function. This study is the first study investigating the long term effects of mobile phone use on brain function. It was also found that frequent mobile phone users showed better focused attention, which can be explained as a learning effect related to making more phone calls in distractive surroundings. No firm conclusions can be drawn as to whether these effects are to be considered an adverse health effect or not, but data have already been collected from more than
20.000 people to replicate this study and further investigate the adverse health effects. |
